A friend of mine is looking at a way to do postcode-to-location lookups for the US, Great Britain, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Korea, and Singapore. She initially started by using Geonames.org for their postcode-to-location database (which has lat/long for US and GB), but realized that there are substantial coverage gaps elsewhere. Essentially, she wants to offer a "find a location near me" service for a retailer which has stores in the aforementioned locales.
